Traveller stories

What our travellers say

“It was great value for money because just about everything is included in the price which means that in reality you need little spending money once you get there. For me it was a very easy holiday in that I was picked up from the airport, transported around and fed lots of lovely food (fantastic four course meal every evening) so all I had to do was enjoy the great walking and the company.”

Guided walking holiday · Beaujolais, France (2009)

“I also booked a tour of the medieval villages in Beaujolais and it was first class. The itinerary covers some beautiful areas, with superb accommodation to welcome you after a day’s walking. Highly recommended.”

Why travel with us

Scotland, planned by\npeople who go there

  • A British operator planning a British destination - no time-zone gap, no call centre, and we know which ferry actually connects
  • Self-guided walking done properly: the right inns in the right order along the trail, your bag moved between them, notes and maps in hand
  • Or no walking at all - the Highlands, Skye and the whisky roads work just as well as a tailor-made drive

What you actually get

Local Experts, Not Just Travel Planners
Their own words, and true: the offices are in Dorset and the Beaujolais, and the routes are planned by people who have walked or driven them.
Truly Tailor-Made
No fixed packages and no one-size-fits-all. Your dates, your pace, your people — the itinerary is written from scratch each time.
Booked End to End
Accommodation in the right order, transfers where you need them, and on walking trips your luggage moved between guest houses.
Slow Travel Since 2007
The business started with walking holidays and still runs on the same idea: fewer places, longer in each, and time to notice where you are.

A country with a right to roam, written into law

Scotland did something in 2003 that almost nowhere else has: it wrote a right of responsible access into law. You may walk almost anywhere - hills, forests, riverbanks, the edges of fields - as long as you behave. That single act is why walking here feels different from walking in most of Europe. There are no fences to negotiate and no signs telling you to keep out. There is just the hill, and whether you fancy it. The West Highland Way runs 96 miles from the edge of Glasgow to the foot of Ben Nevis, past Loch Lomond and across Rannoch Moor and through Glen Coe, and it is the one most people start with. The Fife Coastal Path is its gentle opposite: fishing villages, sand, and a working coastline an hour from Edinburgh. Off to the west are the islands, where the ferry timetable becomes the itinerary, and north are the Cairngorms, the largest national park in Britain and the best place in the country to see an eagle. You do not have to walk any of it. Plenty of our Scotland trips are a car, a good route and somewhere worth stopping.
