“It was great value for money because just about everything is included in the price which means that in reality you need little spending money once you get there. For me it was a very easy holiday in that I was picked up from the airport, transported around and fed lots of lovely food (fantastic four course meal every evening) so all I had to do was enjoy the great walking and the company.”
“I also booked a tour of the medieval villages in Beaujolais and it was first class. The itinerary covers some beautiful areas, with superb accommodation to welcome you after a day’s walking. Highly recommended.”
The Wild Atlantic Way is not a road so much as a decision somebody made in 2014 to sign one. It runs 1,600 miles down the entire western seaboard, from Donegal's headlands to the harbours of west Cork, and it takes in the Cliffs of Moher, the Connemara bogs, the Dingle peninsula and the Ring of Kerry along the way. Nobody drives all of it. The trick is choosing your stretch and then going slowly enough to stop, which is exactly what a self-drive trip is for and exactly what a coach tour cannot do. Away from the coast the country changes completely: Dublin is a walking city with a literature to match, the midlands are quiet and green, and the north has the Causeway coast and a set of stories worth a guide. We book the car, the route and every bed along it, in an order that works, and then leave you alone. If a morning turns out well you stay put. That is the whole point.
